Mini-Ground
School: January 24 & 26, 2008

The
"mini-ground school" was designed specifically for those who want to
learn how to fly or who are already certificated pilots and want to join the Club.
We
had 13 (yup THIRTEEN) individuals show up for the Thursday session -- most to
complete training for a private pilot's certificate. Two people already
had pilot certificates.
Many of the "pilots-to-be" want to attend
the Ground School beginning in mid-February.
After the initial introductions,
Following introductions of Club members, officers, and instructors, Dennis Mathis
led a tour of the facilities including the Club meeting area and the hangar. During
the tour, attendees had an opportunity to see each aircraft, sit in the front
seats, and ask lots of questions.

Following
the tour, there was a short video made by one our our Club members. The video
was taken inside one of the aircraft during a local flight in the Majors Field
area. It is amazing what a Cessna-150 flying video looks like with "Top Gun"
music in the background!
Dennis then introduced the various membership
options and the special offers the Club is making to potential new members.
Maybe
one of the most interesting, and question-provoking, portions of these meetings
occurred next as Dennis discussed the path to get a pilot certificate.
There
was so much interest by those attending that plans were made to begin the next
formal 12-week ground school in mid-February. The ground school would be held
after work, one evening per week, in the local area. More information on
the upcoming ground school will be appearing shortly.
The final part of
this mini-Ground School was a discussion of the many Club activities including
recent flying rallye, visits in Fort Worth to the Meacham Control Tower and the
Automated Flight Service Station, and $100 hamburger jaunts.
